Wealth for this calculator = the money you could actually take with you if you sold up and moved within 6–12 months — after clearing debts and selling costs.

Include
  • Your share of home equity (value minus outstanding mortgage)
  • Cash & savings, ISAs, brokerage/investments, crypto you’d liquidate
  • Defined contribution pensions (transfer or surrender value)
  • Business equity or sale proceeds you’d realistically net
  • Other assets you plan to sell (second home, boat, etc.)
Don’t include
  • Gross property value (use equity only)
  • Future salary, bonuses, rental income, or state pension
  • Assets you’re keeping (e.g., equity in a home you won’t sell)
  • Credit limits or borrowing capacity
  • Cars/furniture unless you’ll sell them for meaningful value
Worked example
Selling home 600k − mortgage 200k = 400k equity.
Pension (DC) 250k + ISA/Investments 120k + cash 30k − loan 5k ⇒ Total wealth = 795,000
